Two hours was all it took to fill a skip with rubbish that had been washed up onto Longton Marsh. It was surprising just how much rubbish was found as the team covered a distance of about a mile in their quest to restore the marsh to its natural glory.
The team at work
The volunteers were staff from Lancashire County Council and United Utilities, joined by voluntary rangers from Lancashire Countryside Service and a couple (Jean & John) who were recruited via Radio Lancashire. After the operation they all adjourned to the Dolphin Inn to be warmed by delicious homemade soup and sandwiches.
Thanks to all who took part for braving the cold winds to do such a marvellous job!
The sheep shouted 'thanks' as they hurried out of the wind.

N.B. Next time we should consider bringing a bigger skip.
